Sweep radar data radial velocity volume scan

The sweep radar data are location radial velocity products. Horizontal resolution is 1 degree x 250 m. The horizontal range is 180 km. The product has an availability of 5 min. This data is available with and without a polarimetric clutter filter, which eliminates non-meteorological echos to increase the quality of the data.


The data is available for the following radar sites:

Borkum, Boostedt, Rostock, Hannover, Ummendorf, Prötzel, Essen, Flechtdorf, Dresden, Neuhaus, Neuheilenbach, Offenthal, Eisberg, Türkheim, Isen, Feldberg, Memmingen. Up-to-date radar site data is available in the linked list of "Radar and wind profiler locations of DWD".


Note: In order to convert the numerical values contained in the HDF5 files into physical quantities (dBZ), it is necessary to use the attributes “gain”, “offset”, “nodata” and “undetect”; see section 4.5 in ‘OPERA weather radar information model in HDF5 v2.3 (PDF)’.
