coastDat_COSMO-CLM German Bight 0028

This is an atmospheric hourly hindcast for the German Bight using COSMO-CLM version 5.00_clm2 from 1948-August 2015 ( http://www.cosmo-model.org/content/model/documentation/core/default.htm ). The model uses a rotated grid with 250 x 180 grid points and a grid point distance of 0.025 degrees, the rotated North pole is located at 172.97 W, 34.925 N. The forcing is coastDat2 doi:10.1594/WDCC/coastDat-2_COSMO-CLM .

In rotated coordinates the model area extends from 2.25 W to 2.25 E, 3.125 S to 3.125 N, in geographical coordinates this corresponds to about 1.3 E to 12.8 E, 52.7 N to 57.3 N.

Descriptor

"Amount" means mass per unit area.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: kg m-2

Attribute description
large_scale_snowfall_amount
Descriptor

"Amount" means mass per unit area.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: kg m-2

Attribute description
cloud_area_fraction
Descriptor

"X_area_fraction" means the fraction of horizontal area occupied by X. "X_area" means the horizontal area occupied by X within the grid cell. Cloud area fraction is also called "cloud amount" and "cloud cover". The cloud area fraction is for the whole atmosphere column, as seen from the surface or the top of the atmosphere. The cloud area fraction in a layer of the atmosphere has the standard name cloud_area_fraction_in_atmosphere_layer. [CF-Standard Name]; unit: 1

Attribute description
air_pressure_at_sea_level
Descriptor

sea_level means mean sea level, which is close to the geoid in sea areas. Air pressure at sea level is the quantity often abbreviated as MSLP or PMSL.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: Pa

Attribute description
surface_air_pressure
Descriptor

The surface called "surface" means the lower boundary of the atmosphere.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: Pa

Attribute description
wind_speed-at10m (maximum)
Descriptor

wind_speed-at10m (maximum) [CF-Standard Name-vertical_coordinate]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
wind_speed-at10m
Descriptor

Speed is the magnitude of velocity. Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) The wind speed is the magnitude of the wind velocity. [CF-Standard Name-vertical_coordinate]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
eastward_wind-at10m
Descriptor

"Eastward" indicates a vector component which is positive when directed eastward (negative westward). Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) [CF-Standard Name-vertical_coordinate]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
air_temperature
Descriptor

Air temperature is the bulk temperature of the air, not the surface (skin) temperature. [CF-Standard Name]; unit: K

Attribute description
eastward_wind
Descriptor

"Eastward" indicates a vector component which is positive when directed eastward (negative westward). Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) [CF-Standard Name]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
northward_wind-at10m
Descriptor

"Northward" indicates a vector component which is positive when directed northward (negative southward). Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) [CF-Standard Name-vertical_coordinate]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
wind_speed
Descriptor

Speed is the magnitude of velocity. Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) The wind speed is the magnitude of the wind velocity.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
soil_temperature
Descriptor

Soil temperature is the bulk temperature of the soil, not the surface (skin) temperature. [CF-Standard Name]; unit: K

Attribute description
wind_speed_of_gust-at10m
Descriptor

Speed is the magnitude of velocity. Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) The wind speed is the magnitude of the wind velocity. A gust is a sudden brief period of high wind speed. In an observed timeseries of wind speed, the gust wind speed can be indicated by a cell_methods of maximum for the time-interval. In an atmospheric model which has a parametrised calculation of gustiness, the gust wind speed may be separately diagnosed from the wind speed. [CF-Standard Name-vertical_coordinate]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
northward_wind
Descriptor

"Northward" indicates a vector component which is positive when directed northward (negative southward). Wind is defined as a two-dimensional (horizontal) air velocity vector, with no vertical component. (Vertical motion in the atmosphere has the standard name upward_air_velocity.) [CF-Standard Name]; unit: m s-1

Attribute description
large_scale_rainfall_amount
Descriptor

"Amount" means mass per unit area.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: kg m-2

Attribute description
atmosphere_convective_available_potential_energy
Descriptor

Convective(ly) available potential energy (often abbreviated CAPE) is a stability measure calculated by integrating the positive temperature difference between the surrounding atmosphere and a parcel of air lifted adiabatically from a given starting height to its equilibrium level. A coordinate variable of original_air_pressure_of_lifted_parcel should be specified to indicate the starting height of the lifted parcel. CAPE exists under conditions of potential instability, and measures the potential energy per unit mass that would be released by the unstable parcel if it were able to convect upwards to equilibrium. [CF-Standard Name]; unit: J kg-1

Attribute description
wind_speed_without_gust-at10m
Descriptor

Dew point temperature is the temperature at which a parcel of air reaches saturation upon being cooled at constant pressure and specific humidity. [CF-Standard Name]; unit: K

Attribute description
convective_snowfall_amount
Descriptor

"Amount" means mass per unit area.[CF-Standard Name]; unit: kg m-2
