This data set accompanies the scientific publication "Hydrodynamics of four moments in the life of a floodplain forest in compound channels" in the peer-reviewed journal Water Resources Research (WRR / ISSN 1944-7973 / Wiley). This dataset contains processed hydraulic variables derived from controlled experimental measurements conducted in a laboratory scale compound-channel, with a floodplain forest patch representing different stages of forest succession. The data represent time-averaged and spatially averaged quantities describing water depth, flow velocity, discharge, mixing layer properties, and momentum exchange. The data set consists of 1. Time averaged water depth 2. Time- and depth averaged flow velocity 3. Time- and sub-sectionally averaged flow velocity 4. Mixing layer characteristics 5. Time- and sub-sectionally averaged flow discharge 6. Transversal exchange of streamwise momentum

This dataset contains all data, which have been used to write the linked paper. In addition, it contains all Python scripts used for the evaluation of the data.

This dataset provides a set of input data for each test case, as well as for the river engineering application used in Martin Utz's dissertation. The corresponding simulation results are also provided. Together with the settings described in the thesis and the software (https://git.iws.uni-stuttgart.de/dumux-pub/Utz2025b), this allows the simulations discussed in the dissertation to be reproduced.
