Die 3D-Messdaten bilden als primäre Höhendaten originäre, unregelmäßig verteilte Messpunkte sowie Linien und flächenhafte Strukturen der topographischen Situation, einschließlich dauerhaft mit der Erdoberfläche verbundener Objekte oder auch temporär zum Erfassungszeitpunkt vorhandener Gegenstände.

Aus den 3D-Messdaten kann das Digitale Geländemodell (DGM) und das Digitale Oberflächenmodell (DOM) abgeleitet werden, die sich in ihrer Datenmodellierung durch ein gleichförmiges Gitter (Rasterweite und Punktabstände) auszeichnen.

3D-Messdaten aus Laserscanning, die niedersachsenweit verfügbar sind, ermöglichen den Aufbau und das Angebot eines hochgenauen DGM1 (Gitterweite von 1,0 m und eine Genauigkeit von ±0,2 m).
