Anhang II der INSPIRE-Richtlinie definiert dieses Thema wie folgt:"Digitale Höhenmodelle für Land-, Eis- und Meeresflächen. Dazu gehören Geländemodell, Tiefenmessung und Küstenlinie."

Kontinuierliches Coverage, das für seinen Definitionsbereich eine auf einem regelmäßigen vierseitigen rektifizierten Gitter beruhende systematische Tessellation verwendet, wobei der Höhenlageneigenschaftswert für jeden der seinen Wertebereich bildenden Rasterpunkte in der Regel bekannt ist.
