Kreis Herford: Fairtrade-Towns

Die Fairtrade-Towns-Kampagne ist eine Initiative des Fairtrade Deutschland e.V., die in Deutschland bereits über 900 Kommunen ausgezeichnet hat. Für eine solche Auszeichnung als „Fairtrade-Kreis“ hat sich auch der Kreis Herford beworben. Das Ziel des Ganzen: Der faire Handel soll auf kommunaler Ebene gefördert und regionale Akteure aus Zivilgesellschaft, Politik und Wirtschaft zusammengebracht werden. Neben den Fairtrade-Towns können auch Fairtrade-Schools und Fairtrade-Universities ausgezeichnet werden. Fairtrade Deutschland ist überparteilich tätig und vertritt die Interessen von Produzent*innen aus den Ländern Afrikas, Asiens und Lateinamerikas gegenüber Politik auf nationaler, europäischer und internationaler Ebene. Der Verein mobilisiert gegen Handelsungerechtigkeit und schließt Lizenzverträge mit Handelspartnern ab, die nach Fairtrade-Standards gehandelte Produkte anbieten.
